Raising butterflies has a great appeal to both children and adults. (Here, I raise my hand without shame.). One of the best ways to do that is with what is called a butterfly kit – it lets you raise butterflies at home or in a classroom. Several butterflies may be kept alive in a little enclosure, and it isn’t necessary for you to be a biologist. No special equipment is required. It’s very simple, because the only thing you need to provide is the sugar!

Each manufacturer offer somewhat different housing. The card can either be made of clear plastic or a type of mesh fabric. Actual construction of the kit is unimportant. What each one of them offers is a way of holding emerging butterflies safely, as well as a clear view of what is going on inside.
Every manufacturer has their own distinct version of a feeder. A dropper, pipette, or perhaps a cotton bud may be needed to hold the liquid. Once again, it’s not really important what is provided because it will be sufficient no matter what it is.
Generally, the butterfly kits do not include the caterpillars. A coupon is often used as a basic way to assure that you can obtain your caterpillars. You need to be sure you are ready to get caterpillars and take care of them. It’s a bad thing if the caterpillars are sent to you and you are gone for a couple weeks! This way you can plan ahead to make sure that you have enough time prior to ordering. A lot of suppliers allow you to choose the dates in which the caterpillars are to be sent.
The point being, all you need offer the caterpillars is a dish of food. In fact, almost anything can be harmful to the health of your livestock, so take care.

Using the kit, everyone will enjoy observing the metamorphoses from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly in the span of just 3 to 5 weeks. Children love taking this fascinating trip of a lifetime. (absolutely, and grown-ups as well) will love them and remember for years to come. As a matter of fact one can repeat the process to number of times as required during the normal breeding season for the butterflies that normally lasts from March to September. It’s not necessary to buy a new butterfly kit each time because they are reusable. Raising butterflies can be economical because the housing is re-usable, the only thing you would need to reorder are the caterpillars. Keep in mind that you should release the butterflies after watching them for a few days. As a reward butterflies will stay in your garden for a couple of days the more array of flowers the better. There isn’t any environmental concern with letting the butterflies free as they are quite common to the area and won’t effect it’s ecology.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a garden or if you live in an area that’s not flat. Acquiring food finds butterflies traveling hundreds of miles fortunately, flying comes easy to them.
